Family News
In October of 1999,
my
wife, Judy, and I traveled with my sister Joanne and her husband, Jim, to Eastern
Europe. This included four days in Poland. We briefly (just time for a
photograph opportunity) went through the village of Spytkowice, Poland.
In September of
2000, my wife, Judy, and I made a return trip to Poland for genealogical research
at the local churches. Specifically we went to
the villages of Toporzysko, Spytkowice, and Jordanow.
We hired a Polish professional genealogy searcher from Lodz, Poland,
Iwona Dakiniewicz, genealogy@pro.net.pl
and she was also the translator and tour guide.
Thanks
to Iwona the
trip was very successful and I prepared a "Rys Genealogy" heritage video tape
(1 hour and 30 minutes) for the next
generation of relatives. The video
tape includes geographic information, explanations, pronunciations, video scenes from the villages,
video footage of the churches, and video of how the genealogical searching of church records
was conducted in the parish offices and finally a copy of the family tree
chart.
__________
Copies of this Rys
genealogy video tape
were given as
gifts for Christmas 2000 to my children, my sisters, nephews and nieces. Copies of
this genealogical video tape were also sent to the Polish Genealogical Society of
American and to the Polish Genealogical Society of Minnesota as an example of
using a video tape to pass on the family tree to future generations.
In 2005, the "Searching for Rys in Poland' video tape was updated to the
DVD format. Copies of this
genealogy DVD
were given as
gifts for Christmas 2005 to my children, my sister, nephews and nieces.
In
1997, the Rys family celebrated an old-fashioned farmhouse Christmas in western
Michigan (Sawyer, Michigan). Book Find: At an antique shop, I bought an English translation of the book
Madame
Curie, a Biography, copyrighted 1937 and printed 1940, published by Double Day.
It was written by Eve Curie, Madame Curie's daughter.
__________
I retired on June 1, 1998 from the 3M Legal Affairs Department
with 14 years in that department and after 32 years with 3M. I
have more time to spend on genealogy searching.
__________
Bragging about bowling: In October, 1997 I had a string of 16 strikes in a row during a practice session and it ended with a 297 game. High ABC sanctioned game (11/11/97) is 279, high ABC sanctioned series (12/15/97) is 726 (231-233-262).
